Messiah of the Midwest
Ethan Clifton

The objective of this piece is to explore surrealism and create something aesthetically appealing while addressing the concept of abuse of power through the abstraction of sensitive imagery via repetition. The artwork features a recurring "camouflage" pattern composed of newspaper clippings of individuals from the aftermath of the Jonestown Massacre. This representation aims to remove individual identities from the victims, highlighting themes of uniformity and collective mindsets. This approach aims to desensitize viewers and mitigate the weight of the subject matter.
